Revelation 6:9-11.
“When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”And a white robe was give to each of them; And it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.”

Of all the judgments in this particular set, the fifth seal has always intrigued me for one particular reason, the words “martyred or slain,” “and their testimony.”

But, Who Are These People?
These are the voices of those left behind after the Rapture of the Church, the ones who rejected the messages of salvation during the church age held by friends, family and others in their lives. The atheists, agnostics and those who participated in the many earthly religions who no doubt have realized their ignorance and called on Jesus to save them.

The Fifth Seal is not a judgment from God against believers, this seal describes the “aftermath” of a period of time where believers are targeted because of their testimony of their new found belief and faith in Jesus Christ.

Some biblical scholars question the chronological order in which this great “Revealing of Jesus Christ” is given to the Apostle John, this great book is indeed in chronological order, however, some elements in which the Apostle John recorded it is not.

At this point in Revelation events seem out of order. When the Rapture occurs there will not be one Christian alive on planet earth.

Our loving God is about to fulfill a great prophecy He gave to the prophet Joel.

Joel 2 v.28-32.
And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My spirit in those days. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

It’s the current conditions on earth before the fifth seal is fulfilled that brings these people to their senses. The life they knew before the Rapture will never be the same again, they have lost family and friends, are grieving terribly, expressing great sorrow and sadness, they have also come to the realization that they were wrong and it’s because of their choices that dictates their current situation. They know without a doubt that they have been left behind. They are living in a world that has turned upside down, a very powerful man has come on the scene making great claims that under his guidance which promise a turn around to peace and prosperity only to see it end up in war, plagues, famine and death. It’s this particular multitude of people that call on the name of the Lord and are saved.

Who Are These People… The Great Multitude in White Robes – Revelation 7:9.
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Is it possible that after the Rapture of the Church that the sinful world left behind blames Christians for what the world has experienced so far described in the first four seal judgments? We know from past Church history that Christians and Christianity as a whole has suffered great persecution, and the words of the Gospel have tried to be stifled.

I read an article a few years back where the author speculated that the antichrist may offer a bounty on the heads of anyone proclaiming the Gospel, this speculation seems to fit the facts of Revelation 6:9-11. They are murdered, slain/martyred for holding firm to God’s word and for their testimony in Christ.

But why are they killed?
It’s obvious by the number killed for their message of salvation through Jesus Christ that the Antichrist and his sycophants are trying to stifle the Christian message of salvation, so he tries to quell the Gospel by killing anyone that’s found preaching the truth about Jesus Christ and anyone that has been saved. Those that have given their lives as Tribulation Saints, cry out to God and Christ asking to avenge their murder.
God and Christ give them special white robes and given rest for a little while under God and Christ’s Authority until this act is complete.

The Great Prostitute and the Beast, Revelation 17:1-6.
1. Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters.
2. With whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.”
3. And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns.
4. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.
5. And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” 6 And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus

Babylon the Harlot represents the one-world religious system, a world economy and whatever rules and laws he enacts. that rules over the religious affairs during the first half of the Tribulation. She rules over the nations of the world fully controlling the religious affairs, and has the reluctant support of the government. The headquarters of this one-world religion will be the rebuilt city of Babylon, (the mother of idolatry,) for it was here that idolatry and false religion began. (Genesis. 11:1-9.)

In verse six (6) the women is drunk with the blood of those who suffered martyrdom for the Messiah (Jesus Christ.) This answers the question as to who was killing and hurting the fifth seal saints. The Gentiles who are saved under the ministry of the 144,000 Jews will suffer persecution by the so-called Ecclesiastic Babylon, and many will be martyred.

Revelation 7:9.
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands. The Apostle John gives a good comparison of the number of those how call on Christ and become saved, as like “grains of sand along a sea shore, that no man could count.”

And remember, under the antichrists rule, any country, or anything that this man deems a threat to his rule will either be subdued and or crushed. Keep this fact in mind if you choose to study the book of Revelation.

Next. The Sixth Seal Judgment.
