“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave, and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountain and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
At this point in the Seal Judgments God and Jesus are angry, a multitude of Christians have just been senselessly murdered, probably by the Antichrist’s own orders. The Apostle John describes the number of those slain for the word of God and their testimony and compares them as “grains of sand along a seashore,” a number that cannot be counted. These martyred Saints are heard crying out beneath the altar and ask God. “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
These Saints are about to witness how God will avenger their senseless deaths. It appears if we take this scripture in a literal sense that before God unleashes this great earthquake, the sun will become as black as sackcloth, this can only be taken literally because God causes the sun to literally become black, no light. Mass panic will break out at this point.
Then God turns His attention to the Moon, and again this should be taken literally, the Moon is struck and the color becomes as blood, this could imply at least symbolically in terms of the spilled blood of the Saints that God is no doubt angry about, or the blood that is about to be spilled by the ones who ordered the mass killings and the one who carried out the murders.
The scripture above singles out first the Kings of the earth. The Antichrist will have established his grip on the world at this point of the tribulation, and appoint 10 Kings who will also rule beneath the Antichrist. God is being extremely efficient with this judgment.
Then God turns His attention to the stars, and again, the best way to understand this is literal, as a massive meteor shower or meteor bombardment on earth, the details of which are not included in the passage. Then it will appear that the sky will roll up like a scroll. I’m not exactly sure in terms of a literal meaning of the sky that rolls up, but it will no doubt appear that the sky will roll up, reducing it’s appearance.
Then the passage states that the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man will flee and attempt to find a place to hide during the signs in the Heavens of God’s anger and the massive global earthquake that strikes.
If this earthquake is as massive and destructive as scripture declares it will be, then to date, no earthquake that has ever occurred on earth cannot compare to this one.
This passage states that every mountain and island will move out of it’s place. Consider the islands of Australia and Hawaii and the many others that will simply move out of place.
A fourth of the population perishes during the Third and Fourth Seal Judgments. To give you a sense in terms of sheer numbers who perish before the Sixth Seal is fulfilled. For the sake of argument lets say the population of earth is 6 billion after the Rapture occurs, 25% of 6 million = 1,500,000,000.
That’s approximately 1 billion, 500 million people that perish during the war and also perish because of the effects of this war. Scripture doesn’t indicate an exact number, just that 1/4 of the population perishes, however, since this will be a global judgment, the numbers will be catastrophic.
Are you sure you want to be here when the Seals are broken and fulfilled?
Don’t harden your heart, there is a way to avoid these judgments.
