Who is Jesus?

Who is this Jesus? “But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  And she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins. Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us.” Matthew 1:20-23.

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” Isaiah 7:14.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to earth over two thousand years ago by being born of a virgin named Mary. He lived a sinless life on this earth. His purpose for coming to earth was to die for our sins. He died on a cross to save us from our sins so that we can be reconciled or brought back into fellowship with God again. He rose from the dead on the third day after His death and burial. He went back to heaven and now is seated at the right hand of God the Father, as our intercessor. He will come again one day to take the Church to heaven where He is.

Jesus, The Son of God on earth
“And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17.

“He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not…But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name” John 1:10&12.

Jesus Christ even though the Son of God lived here on earth. His purpose was to become the sacrifice for us so that we would become the children of God.

The Son of God Incarnate (Deity Becoming Flesh.)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.” John 1:1&14.

Colossians 1:15-16 says; Jesus Christ.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.”

The Greek word translated firstborn is the word from which we get prototype and refers to the fact that in His humanity Jesus is the model or standard for mankind, not that he was the first person born.  In Colossians 1:16 Paul said that everything was created by him and for him, things in Heaven (angels) and on Earth (mankind).  So He is not a created being but is in fact the Creator of all beings.

The writer of Hebrews confirmed this in chapter 1, agreeing that when God wants to be visible, He appears as Jesus. In fact he later quoted Psalm 45:6-7 where God Himself addressed His Son as God (Hebr. 1:8).  Jesus claimed to be God in John 10:30 and John 14:9 , and John said so in John 1:1.

Jesus Christ is always present with God from the beginning and is God (the third person of the triune God). He being deity condescended to becoming flesh so that He could come to earth to redeem man.

Jesus, Savior of the World.
The natural man is lost and does not have eternal life. Man needed a savior, a giver of eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:16-18.

Even though Jesus came as Savior of the world, to be saved and receive this eternal life, one has to accept Him as Savior. If you believe that He is the only begotten Son of God, you are not condemned.

“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.” 1 John 4:14.

“So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” John 4:40-42.

Jesus is Lord.
“For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” 1 Corinthians 8:5-6.

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” Romans 1:1-4.

Although many people are called Lord, we have one Lord, Jesus Christ the Son of God. We should revere Him as such. We should hail Him as such.

Why Should I want to Know or Accept Him as Lord and Savior?
Accepting Him as Lord Makes you Free
“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36.

Have you ever noticed that no matter how much you attain in this life you feel like there is more. There is hardly anything that can satisfy. You keep reaching for more. When you get more you find there is still a gaping hole inside you, like a vacuum that cannot be filled. You walk around with a burden believing that you must fill it with something and you search for that thing. Jesus Christ is the only one that can satisfy and make you free.

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2.

Every person at birth inherits eternal death because of sin. Eternal death is eternal separation from God resulting in eternal doom. Jesus Christ came so we will inherit eternal life.

He Makes You a Child of God.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name.” John 1:12. “For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith.”Galatians 3:25

Once you receive Christ as Savior you become a child of God.

He is the Hope of Glory
“For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.”
Colossians 1:27. “and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.” Romans 8:17.

This is a glorious privilege and an honor. When we accept Jesus as Savior, we also accept the right to share in His glory and to be an heir of God. That means all that God the Father has is ours as much as it is Jesus’. The glorious hope is that one day we will inherit it all when we get to heaven.

A Heaven to Gain and a Hell to Shun.
“And since I’m going away to prepare a place for you, I’ll come back again and welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am.” John 14:3.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.

Jesus Christ is preparing a place for all His Children so that we can be with Him in heaven. He is coming again soon to take us with Him. This is also another glorious hope of the children of God, escaping this world of sin and hardship to be with our Lord eternally in heaven where there will be no more sorrow or pain.

Not only will we escape the world on its hardship but we also escape hell.
“And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire. And if any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:12-15.

“But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8.

Hell is real and the only way to escape it is through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. The bible says no man comes to the Father but through Jesus (John 14:6). If you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and accept Him as Savior, not only will you be saved from sin but be saved from eternal doom and damnation.

How Do I accept Jesus as Savior and Lord?
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10.

You must do two things in accepting Jesus as Saviour:
Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord
Believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.

When you have done these things the bible declares that you are saved. Salvation is that simple and it cost you nothing. Jesus paid the price already for you to have eternal life and be saved from your sin. He died on the cross over 2000 years ago. Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord will bring you freedom.

If you want to accept Jesus Christ as Lord please repeat this simple prayer:
I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. I want Him to come into my heart and become my Savior. Lord I repent of all my sins and pray for your forgiveness. I am deciding right now to make a change in my life and begin following Jesus and obeying His commands. I thank you for your gift of salvation in Jesus name. Amen.

God bless you.
